15th Sikhs, watercolour portrait of a Daffadar, dated 1896

An attractive and accurate watercolour portrait of a Daffadar [sergeant] of the 15th Sikhs signed and dated Tracey ’96 The 13 x 7½ full length portrait is in the original period frame and is in excellent unfaded condition. The veteran is shown in dress uniform with an impressive turban including a chakram, and a fine group of medals including Order of British India, 2nd Afghan War, Kabul to Kandahar Star, Egypt medals, and a three clasp IGS. The regimental number appears on his epaulettes. He holds a Martini Henry rifle. A very pleasing and decorative piece. The wood of the lower corners of the frame is a little chipped. We usually remove prints and pictures from frames to amke posting simpler but have decided to keep this one in the frame as it is so original.  jan31/1      SOLD 4th April 2022
