An excellent example of a pre-1855 officer’s 20mm coatee button of the 21st Foot, Royal Scots Fusiliers . The attractive button has the design of a Scottish thistle within a circle with the motto NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT [No one attacks me with impunity] broken ar the bottom with the regimental number 21. It has the backmark JENNENS & Co. LONDON and retains virtually full gilt finish. After 1855 the design changed radically as can be seen from later examples in this category. may22/8
