Adams, Lieut. Colonel Archibald, I.M.S., M.D.: The Western Rajputana States. A Medico-Topographical and General Account of Marwar, Sirohi, Jaisalmir. Junior Army & Navy Stores, Ltd. [London] 1899 1st edition large 8vo 9½ x 6½ ins.

Frontis portrait of Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur, over 60 other plates, mainly from photographs (including princes, groups, buildings,  big game, shikar, etc), xi, 455pp. Original blue cloth gilt, front board gilt blocked with a camel, a bright copy, very minor wear to top and tail of spine, completely clean throughout although ex-Irish Library with just one stamp to title page the book seems little used if at all with some pages still uncut,  An excellent reference work on the three princely desert states of Jodhpur (Mewar), Sirohi, and Jaisalmer. The work is in six sections covering: 1.  the states and their history and administration, 2. public services, 3. fairs, famines, disposal of dead ( a very short section), 4. markets, food, big game, fish, 5. health, medicine and sanitation, 6. flora and fauna. Despite the unusual publisher this is a handsome, well-produced book. A scarce title: we have only had one other copy in 30 years.   apr11/1
