[Lacking the frontispiece portrait], single page map of North West Frontier, 365pp. Original publisher’s blue cloth gilt, endpaper cracked along rear hinge but binding holding well, title page loosened from stitching [probably because the frontispiece has been removed, although the tissue guard remains]. We offer this defective copy because it is an important book and this is family copy with the personal library stamp of Colonel Pierce Taylor, Newton Priory, to the title page and half title. A blank before the half title has an inscription in ink Vera Grissell [The Life of my great uncle General Reynell Taylor. After a brilliant career, beginning in the Indian cavalry in the Gwalior campaign Taylor ended his career as a Major General and was known as the Bayard of the Punjab. aug29/5
