3rd Bengal European Infantry, officer’s 26mm button

A extremely fine example of the officer’s large sized 26mm button with Victorian crown, worn from 1861 when the Bengal army was re-organised after the Mutiny. This button retains almost all the full handsome frosted gilt finish. The backmark is JENNENS & CO LONDON.  The scroll at the bottom of the button records the regiment’s Bhurtpoor battle honour awarded after the Siege of Bhurtpoor [now Bharatpur] in January 1826, the last calsp to appear of the Army of India medal.     nov21/2
