Burnaby, Fred, Captain, Royal Horse Guards: A Ride to Khiva: Travels and Adventures in Central Asia. Cassell, Petter & Galpin [London] 1876 2nd edition 8vo [same year as 1st edition].

3 folding coloured maps (as in the first edition), xviii.487pp. Contemporary half calf gilt with marbled paper covered boards, matching endpapers and with all edges marbled, black title label gilt, by A Brown & Co, Savile St, Hull, very minor wear to leather corners but a very smart, clean edition wiht all maps neatly folded [the two large ones are often missing].  There is a small contemporary stamped owner’s name J Newbald to the top of the title page and on a blank before the title page. As usual with contemporary binding practice the half title is not included. This is not a cheaper edition and is essentially in the same format as the first. The smaller folded map is a frontispiece, the two larger ones were originally in pockets but these have been very professionally bound in near the front and at the rear.   oct11/2
