The small group photograph is of the size used on cartes de visite, 3¾ x 2¼. It is mounted on an old piece of album card dated Gosport 1863 and signed in ink on the photograph A AustinThe 11 uniformed officers wear double breasted tunics or frock coats. The location of Gosport might suggest the regiment is about to embark for service overseas and indeed the regiment was to spend part of the 1860s in India.       may14/4

Captain alfred Austen joined the 6th Foot [1st Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment] as an Ensign in 1852, becoming Lieutenant in 1854 and captain in 1861.
