71st Foot The Highland Light Infantry. An example of the officer’s gilt 25mm button with the backmark FIRMIN & SONS,  LONDON. This is the pattern worn from 1855 to 1881 when the regiment became known as the 1st Bn. The Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regt.). The button has a little loss of gilt on the high points of the design. The regiment, known as the 73rd when formed in 1777, first saw service in India in 1780 and acquired its number 71 in 1786.   dec24/4   SOLD 6th February  2023
