86th (Royal County Down) Regt. of Foot. Officer’s 26mm gilt

A very good example of the officer’s 26mm gilt button of the 86th (Royal County Down) Regt. of Foot. This handsome Irish button has the design of the regimental number beneath a crowned Irish harp, all within a scalloped edge. It has the back mark JENNENS &Co. LONDON and retains most of the original gilt finish. This is the pattern worn from 1855 until 1881 when the regiment became the 2nd Bn. Royal Ulster Rifles. jun22/3
