90th Foot, Perthshire Volunteers, officer’s coatee gilt button 20mm
£40.00
An excellent example of the officer’s button worn on the coatee in use before 1855 and although the design of the button was constant from 1800 until it became the 2nd Bn. of the Cameronians in 1881 the style and lettering on the reverse suggest a period of 1830-55. The regiment was designated Light Infantry. The backmark is JENNENS & Co. LONDON. The button retains full gilt. An illustration shows a coatee of the pre 1855 era – the larger buttons on the front and the coat tails are all 20mm and those on the collar and gauntlet lace are around 15mm. The coatee illustrated is also Scottish, being of the the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders. may22/5
