A fine North West Indian residence of Gen Sir Peter Lumsden

An 11 x 8½ ins full plate vintage photograph of a substantial residence of chalet type on a commanding mountainous spot, almost certainly in the North West of India, possibly on the outskirts of Simla. It came to us loose in a family album kept by General Sir Peter Stark Lumsden, G.C.B., C.S.I., A.D.C. Lumsden joined the Benal Army in 1847, serving initially in the 60th Native Infantry, but rose rapidly becoming Quarter Master General and later Adjutant General in India and serving on the North West Frontier, Afghanistan, and China. The family’s Scottish seat was at Belhelvie in Aberdeenshire. There is old damage to the lower right coner with some loss.    jun9/3
