A scarce example of an epaulette of the Military Knights of Windsor

POA

A handsome and decorative epaulette with the royal cypher of Queen Victoria above the cross of St George. The gilt button has a king;s crown.  The knights form a very small group of royal appointees who support the Order of the Garter and perform ceremonial duties at the castle. The establishment is around a dozen pensioned officers of the Army, The body claims to be the oldest in the British Army and the knights live in apartments in the Lower Ward of the castle and are administered by their own Governor. Their position does not confer on them an order of knighthood but at any time some may be knights of orders such as the Bath or the British Empire.   SOLD 9th April 2023
