A warrior photographed in Karachi, circa 1870s

£25.00

A full length carte de visite portrait of a warrior or armed servant dressed in white and wearing a curved sword of tulwar style and a dagger in his belt. The cdv is by MICHIE & Co PHOTOGRAPHERS, KURRACHEE  and probably dates from the 1870s. A partially indistinct manuscript ink inscription on the verso reads Belong to Chotay ?Gill. The card is rather marked but somewhat unusual. The now unfamiliar spelling is of course Karachi, the important port city now in Pakistan. nov25/2
