A wild boar, a sketch by Lt. Edward James Upton, dated 1857


An original pen and ink with wash on paper, 4¼ x 3 ins and inscribed in ink beneath the seated boar Touch me! mounted on part of an old album sheet, dated below 1857. This came from one of several albums of sketches and paintings made in the 1850s and 60s by Edward James Upton whilst serving in the 72nd Highlanders and later the 26th (Cameronians). The artist spent some years in Ireland before leaving for the Indian Mutiny.  aug26/5   SOLD 26th August 2022
