A young officer of Dragoon Guards, c 1870
A carte de visite sized portrait, 3½ x 2¼ ins, but on part of an old album leaf. He is probably an officer of the 6th Dragoon Guards ( Carabiniers ) whose black plume was changed to white in 1873. jun9/1
Provenance: This photograph came from one of the family albums of General Sir Peter Lumsden, G.C.B., C.S.I., A.D.C. and was on a page with other photographs mainly taken in Scotland where the family seat of Belhelvie was in Aberdeenshire. Lumsden’s distinguished service was almost entirely in India. These albums came to us in a large archive of his material which had passed down through descendants of his brother, General Sir Harry Burnett Lumsden, as Sir Peter & his wife had no children.
