Abbottabad, No 4 Hazara Mountain Battery, P F F

Abbottabad, No 4 Hazara Mountain Battery, Punjab Frontier Force. A badly marked photograph, 10½ x 8½ ins, showing a gun being carried down a defile on three mules, a fourth following with boxes of ammunition. A very posed photograph with all the soldiers wearing their medals, probably 1880s/90s. The photograph is pasted to an old backing card with nothing on the reverse. Despite the marking to the background the figures and detail are very clear. These were the sort of guns which were used on the hazardous routes from India into Afghanistan during the 2nd Afghan War. apr16/1    SOLD 5th August 2022
