A first hand account of the military action on the Tibet Mission of 1904

£165.00

Ottley, Brevet-Major W. J., 34th Sikh Pioneers: With Mounted Infantry in Tibet. Smith, Elder, & Co. [London] 1906, 1st edition 8vo.

48 photo illustrations, plan of fortified camp at Gyantse, xiii.275pp, 4pp ads. Original red cloth gilt, boards very bright but spine faded, internally completely clean with all illustrations correct as list, no previous ownership markings.  Ottley served with the 34th Sikh Pioneers and displays a rather blood-thirsty, “scalp hunting” approach to the campaign. However this is an interesting view of the Younghusband campaign from the point of view of a regimental officer with the Mission’s accompanying escort. Yakushi O49(a).
