One of a run of these lists which we also have in stock at the moment in identical bindings to this one belonged to William, Duke of Clarence, later to be William IV. In this year the numbered line regiments reached 100 [two years earlier it was only 80]. We show a couple of examples, the 33rd [1st Yorkshire West Riding, later the Duke of Wellington’s] where at this time Marquess Cornwallis was Colonel and the Hon Arthur Wellesley Lieut. Colonel, and the 42nd Highlanders, the Royal Highland Regiment whose Colonel was Hector Munro and Lieut. Colonel Charles Graham, the latter holding the rank of Major General in the Army. In both regiments the number of officers had increased greatly, especially in the 42nd [later the Black Watch], where there were eight Campbells listed.  Also shown is the 3rd or Scots Guards whose Colonel was the Duke of Argyll and Lieutenant Colonel Cavendish Lister,  the 1st & 2nd Guards’ Colonels being the Dukes of Gloucester and of York. This 44th year of the Army List shows a number of additional units, such as a Regt. of Foot in Corfu, York Hussars, York Fuzileers, York Rangers,      aug15/1
