POA

D’Oyly, Charles: Tom Raw, The Griffin: A Burlesque Poem in Twelve Cantos: illustrated by twenty-five engravings, descriptive of the Adventures of a Cadet in the East India Company’s Service, from the period of his quitting England to his attaining a staff situation in India. By a Civilian and an Officer on the Bengal Establishment. Printed for R. Ackermann [London] 1828 1st edition 8vo.

25 hand coloured engraved plates, vii, [i list of plates], 325pp, 10pp Ackermann’s advertisements. Original cloth blind stamped and gilt, faded,  a little wear to head and foot of spine but generally very good, new endpapers, very occasional spotting, very few repaired edge tears to plates and some plates trimmed a little but not affecting image or title, one plate has a brown mark to the lower margin [illustrated]. On the whole a very decent copy of a book which has often been plundered for its plates. Despite its humorous purpo se the book, and especially the plates give a vivid image of early 19th century life for a young military man. Abbey Travel 450.     dec15/1  RESEERVED
