Large folding genealogical tree of ruling family, folding coloured map of the state (1 inch to 8 miles), folding coloured plan of the city (1 inch to 4 miles), page of heraldic details embossed at top with the arms of the ruler in colour, x.223pp, x (glossary), xviii (index). Original green cloth gilt, wear at extremities and staining to part of front board, internally a very good tight copy, presentation inscription signed by Luard on front free endpaper (to his public school – Marlborough – with their label to front pastedown). The tables form the last 100pp of the book. This was one of the volumes in the impressive Central India State Gazetteer Series. Bhopal was the most important Mohammedan state in India after Hyderabad and its rulers were members of the Sunni sect. The city map is particulalry good and such town and city plans are not common in the gazetteers.  feb15/8
