Dyer, Brigadier General R. E, C.B.: The Raiders of the Sarhad. Being the account of a Campaign of Arms and Bluff against the Brigands of the Persian-Baluchi Border during the Great War. H. F. & G. Witherby [London] 1921 1st edition 8vo.
2 single page sketch maps, 18 photo illustrations, 223pp. A particularly good, clean, bright copy with only slight wear at the head and foot of the spine, internally with just a neat ownership name dated 12, 26 to the front free endpaper. This work recounts Dyer’s activities in Persia where he won his reputation as a military commander: a reputation later eclipsed by his notoriety following the Amritsar massacre during the post-World War I Punjab disturbances. Reginald Dyer tells us that all the photographs used in his book are from snapshots taken by officers with him on this mission. dec14/2
