Course of the Danube from the Black sea to Constantinople, 1860s
Carte du Cours du Danube depuis Ulm jusque’à son emboure dans la Mer noire ou Guide de Voyage à Constantinople sur le Danube avec indication de tous les points de la Navigation Pygrographes sur cette route. Artaria & Compagnie [Vienne] c1864.
Folding map, dissected, linen mounted, coloured in outline, extending to 30 x 21 ins [750 x 530mm] when unfolded. The map folds down in 18 plates to a size of 175 x 127mm into its original gilt printed cloth boards. The boards are somewhat marked but sound and the map itself has just a little discolouration around some folds. However this is a very attractive and interesting map. The date is an assumption from the dating of other maps by Artaria on their advertising endpaper. The lower left quarter of the map has an inset city plan of Constantinople and there is an additional illustration of one of the steamships in use on the Donau. apr1/2
