DARMSTADT, a coloured map of part of the German State of Hesse centred on the uty of Darmstadt

DARMSTADT. A good fully coloured map of the city and its surroundings, 21x 24 ins [53 x 61 cm], folding, dissected, and grey linen backed folding down to a size of 7½ x 4¼ ins [ 19.5 x 11 cm ] with a contemporary manuscript label to one endpaper. Darmstadt received irs city status in 1320 and is the site of a splendid Ducal palace and a fine and exciting amount of Jugendstil or Art Nouveau architecture. Grand Duke Ernst, who succeeded to the Grand Duchy of Hesse and by Rhine  in 1892, was a significant patron of the Artist’s Colony there.    mar2/2
