Duke of Wellington’s Regt., formerly the 33rd and 76th Regiments of Foot. A good 10 inch silver salver hall marked London 1924 Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, 112 Regent Street, W. The salver, raised on four ball & claw feet weighs 20 Troy ounces [around 650 gms] and is in excellent condition. Being a presentation piece it is engraved with the badge of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, including the elephant representing its early service in India, partly under the command of the Iron Duke when he was The Hon Arthur Wellesley. Beneath the badge the inscription reads Presented to Lieut. C. H. E. Lowther, M.C. The Duke of Wellington’s Regt. by his Brother Officers on the occasion of his marriage 17th December 1924. Around this are 24 signatures of the officers, which we haven’t researched. Some of the names are Bolton, Lepper, Sampson, Armitage, Robertson, Bowflower, Woods, Shepherd. jun22/4
