FRANCIS. Armorial bookplate of Lt. Col. George Grant Francis. F.S.A., of Cae Bailey. The 85 x 60 mm armorial bookplate is pasted to the board of a small book and also has a bookplate of the Royal Institution of S. Wales with a stamp of the verso showing it to be the gift of John Richardson Francis  of Llwyn Derw near Swansea in 1895. George Francis [1814-1882] was a Welsh antiquary and writer, Mayor of Swansea in 1854, and also Colonel of the 1st Glamorgan Artillery Volunteers. The bookplate is a little grubby and has a slightly damp odour. oct22/1
