General Sir Peter Stark Lumsden, G.C.B., C.S.I. Early photograph with friends in India
POA
The 5½ x 4 photograph probably dates from the 1860s when Lumsden was serving in the Quartermaster General’s Department in the Indian Army. It has a central fold and is unmounted. The men hold hats which appear to be a kind of soft brimmed solar topi. Peter Lumsden is the central figure. We acquired this image in a large archive of material descended in the family from Sir Peter, who died without issue. Details of his illustrious military career in India, Afghanistan, and China will be found in other areas of the website. mar16/1 SOLD 17th February 2023
