General Sir Peter Stark Lumsden, G.C.B., C.S.I. Early photograph with friends in India

The 5½ x 4 photograph probably dates from the 1860s when Lumsden was serving in the Quartermaster General’s Department in the Indian Army. It has a central fold and is unmounted. The men hold hats which appear to be a kind of soft brimmed solar topi. Peter Lumsden is the central figure.  We acquired this image in a large archive of material descended in the family from Sir Peter, who died without issue.
