Gerald Addington, 5th Viscount Sidmouth [1882-1953] in battledress

6 x 4 ins bust length portrait of the viscount mounted on 11 x 8 ins photographer’s card signed Henry Wykes, [a photographer who opened a studio in Exeter in 1914]. Gerald William Addington was a captain in the 6th Bn. The Devonshire Regt. (TA) and served in WWI in India, Mesopotamia, Aden, and Salonica, succeeding his father in the title early in 1915. He married Mary, only daughter of Sir Donald Campbell Johnstone, ICS. One of our illustrations shows his coat of arms as appearing in Burke’s Peerage, jan25/2
