Folding map of Italy, dissected, linen backed, coloured in outline, two sheets each extending unfolded to 29 x 17ins inches [73.5 x 43.5 cm]. The maps are in clean condition and fold down to a size of 8½ x 5 ins [21 x 12 cm] and fit into the original cloth covered boards with gilt blocked title to front board  Italien von J. B. Roost.  The maps, each of 12 plates, sit side by side in the binding. the endpapers with printed publisher’s lists. The right hand map is northern showing as far north as Colmar, Munich, and Vienna. In the south it includes most of Corsica and Italy as far south as Rome. In the west it extends some way beyond Marseille and to the east to Scutari on the Turkish coast. The left hand, southern part shows the rest of south Italy, Sicily, southern Corsica, Sardinia. and Malta with parts of Algeria. To the lower right is an inset map showing Greece and part of Anatolian Turkey. An unusual but rather successful way of dividing a map to make it more mangeable – particularly when travelling.  mar18/1
