H. H. Tukojirao Holkar III, Maharaja of Indore
POA
H. H. the Maharaja of Indore, Tukojirao Holkar III appears dressed in white in the centre of this 5¾ x 4 ins vintage photograph mounted on a piece of old album card. The Maharaja ruled this Central Indian state from 1903 to 1926 when he abdicated in favour of his son. He was invested with full ruling powers in 1911 at the age of 21 and this photograph could date from around that time. It appears that someone is being introduced to him by a British officer, possibly a Resident. A number of the figures wear the medal for the 1903 Delhi Coronation Durbar. jan3/3 SOLD 20th March 2023
