H. M. S. Dido. Crew groups in the Far East, early 1900s.

Two good group photographs of the crew of H.M.S. Dido,  a Cruiser built in the 1890s which had played a minor part in the Boxer Rebellion in China in 1900. One side shows a large group of Seamen with a small bird in a cage. All wear straw sun hats. probably of local manufacture.  The other side of the old album card shows a group of 16 Stokers, mainly wearing similar hats but with three cages of birds. Several smoke typical clay pipes of the period. Each strongly toned photograph is around 10 x 8 ins. aug25/1  SOLD 25th August 2022
