His Majesty’s Chapels Royal. A pair of small buttons made into a brooch.

£35.00

The two small size buttons are of gilt brass officer’s quality and are by Hamburger & Co of London. They are fasted by means of a simple brass bar and pin. They probably date from the reign of either Edward VII or George V. We have never come across this pattern of button before. It is listed in Dress and Insignia Worn at Court as being worn by “The Children of the Chapels Royal”. When not in surplices the choristers wear a scarlet and gold tunic of antique design and the buttons are probably worn on that. jan19/4
