Indian Mutiny interest. Lucknow Gazetteer from the series introduced by Lord Curzon.

£55.00

Nevill, H. R.: LUCKNOW: A Gazetteer, Being Volume XXXVII of the District Gazetteers of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh.  Govt. Press of United Provinces [Allahabad] 1904 1st edition thus, 8vo.

Small folding coloured map of Lucknow [minor damage and tears without loss, 206pp, xxxiv [Gazetteer Appendix tables], vi [index]. Re-cased in the original green cloth gilt with rather crude new endpapers, binding sound but rather worn with a label removed from beneath the spine, text block sound and quite clean, last page of index crudely re-attached, old stamp of Public Works Office library to first page of Appendix but not to the main title page . The main text block is entirely narrative and deals with all aspects of the City and area with a substantial history section with a good deal about the Indian Mutiny, Siege etc. There may have been a larger map before the title page but we are not sure. These gazetteers – forming a series introduced by Lord Curzon – are not easy to find in anything like decent condition although some have been reprinted in recent years. oct5/2
