Folding map in rear pocket [Khandesh and surrounding area], 5 illustrations, ii.281pp. Worn and stained original cloth gilt, spine very faded,the boards gilt blocked with a representation of the Indian Mutiny medal, stitching breaking between iv and v and also towards the end of the volume, amateur tape reinforcing to hinges,  neat old ownership signature to ffep H. C. Singh, underlining in red to police sections in contents list and to places in first few chapters, large map somewhat fragile with tears along some folds, contents reasonably clean. Khandesh lies to the south of the Satpura Range, between Indore and the Nizam’s Dominions in Hyderabad. The corps was one of the local units raised, with British officers, to restore and maintain order in lawless times. there is a detailed record of their important service in Central India during the Mutiny of 1857-58.   jan22/2
