Indian of colonial whip handle inlaid with bone and metal

The decorative wooden whip handle measures 13 ins in length and 1½ ins in diameter at the wider end. There are traces of old leather fixing at the other end and the handle is carved to enable a firm grip. The family from whom this came believed it was Indian but it could also be middle eastern or possibly north African. It may have been a camel whip and is probably 19th century. There are faintly engraved scratch initials to the inlaid brass at the end.        jun2/5 SOLD 29th April 2022
