A manuscript letter, written on three sides of two sheets of blue writing paper 10 x 6½ ins writing paper, from Edith Bowker, wife of Lieut Colonel F J Bowker of the Hampshire Regiment to her sixteen year old son at Charterhouse School and addressed from Cavalry Lines, Poona Feb 12 1916. The letter, complete with its mourning envelope with 1 anna stamp, tells her son that his father, commanding a battalion of the Hampshires had been wounded and hospitalised after a battle at Orah Creek near Kut al Amara. She mentions regimental casualties mentioning three surviving officers by name -Major Stilwell, Captain Foster, and Mr amesBurrell. The recipient, Reginald James Bowker, was to become a leading diplomat as Sir James Bowker,, G.B.E., K.C.M.G. aug12/1 RESERVED 4th April 2022
