Lord Irwin: a large print of the former Viceroy in Garter robes, 1930s.

A large print showing Lord Irwin wearing the robes of the Order of the Garter of which he was made a Knight by the King Emperor George V in 1931, the year in which he completed his 5 year period as Viceroy of India. He wears the breast star of his Order of the Star of India immediately below that of the Garter. He was created G.C.S.I. as well as G.C.I.E. on his appointment as Viceroy in 1926. The print, after a painting by Oswald Birley, measures 15 x 9½ ins and is double mounted on a large card 23 x 16ins. There is some foxing to the print. Lord Irwin was later, as Earl of Halifax, to serve as Foreign Secretary.  may31/3
