Vol 1: Portrait frontispiece & 13 other plates and maps, xx, 511pp; vol 2: frontispiece & 14 other plates and maps, xii, 522pp. Contemporary blue half leather with marbled paper covered boards by Mudie , all edges marbled. leather scuffed and worn especially to spines but sound, internally the text block is very clean with maps neatly folded and portrait plates retaining guards without foxing. Top of each title page inscribed in ink Will from ES Aug 17th 1898. This book was hugely popular and ran to over 30 editions in its first year.   aug21/2
