Major R C A B Bewicke-Copley, C.B. King’s Royal Rifle Corps

A bust length photographic portrait of the officer in dress uniform with medals. The portrait measures 6 x 4¼ins and is mounted on part of an old card album leaf. The verso has portrait of another KRRC officer, Reggie Seymour, in civilian dress. Bewicke-Copley was to rise to be a major general and awarded a KBE. His medals in this portrait comprise: C.B., Egypt medal, India General Service 1895 with four clasps, Q.S.A. with six clasps, K.S.A., Khedive’s Star.

He was born 1855 as Robert Calverley Alington Bewicke, adding the name Copley by royal licence on his marriage in 1886. His oldest son, Redvers, was killed in action in WWI and his second son, Robert Godfrey Wolseley, became the 5th Baron Cromwell. see Burke’s Peerage & Burke’s Landed Gentry.     SOLD 18th March 2023
