Medal or token commemorating the Peace of Amiens in 1801
The small 25mm medal or token is well gilded with just a little rubbing wear on some of the high points. The obverse shows a dove, symbolic of peace, flying over ships at anchor and on the shore is a cornucopia overflowing with trade goods ioncluing a barrel labelled TO FRANCE. Around the top are the hopeful words PEACE, COMMERCE & PLENTY. The reverse, around a stylised Union Flag has the wording: PRELIMINARIES OF PEACE BETWEEN GREAT BRITAIN AND FRANCE SIGNED OCTOBER 1st 1801.
The peace of 1801 was to be only a brief affair before the Napoleonic Wars began in earnest.
