£150.00

Authentic Memoirs of Warren Hastings, Esq. late Governor General of Bengal, with Strictures on the Management of his Impeachment: to which is added, An Ezamination into the Causes of Alarm in the Empire. by Anthony Pasquino, Esq. A New Edition, Corrected and Enlarged. Printed for J. Bew, Paternoster-Row [London]1798 8vo.

72pp. Now bound in stout maroon buckram gilt, probably originally it, would have been in blue paper wrappers like most pamphlets of the time, a little foxing to the half title which also has a contemporary ownership signature A, Spens top right, page 57 has an unintended oak smudge [illustrated]. The author, whose real name appears to have been John Williams, gives many useful details of the trial and comparison with others. He lists peers, etc who died during the course of the trial, which lasted many times longer than any previous impeachment. He finds it unjust. We have haad several other contemporary pamphlets on this subject but I cannot recall having seen this one before.      apr6/1
