Military tennis team with Indian ball boys, early 20th century

£60.00

An unusual and attractive Edwardian group of tennis players, all non commissioned officers with two turbanned Indian ball boys seated in front. They wear tunics very casually over their tennis whites and some sport a medal ribbon – probably the Indian medal 1896. The portrait, 11 x 8½ ins, is in good conditiion and mounted on a grey photographer’s card of Herzog & Higgins, Mhow, Central India. Mhow was in the Central Indian state of Indore and has long been an important military station guarding the route from Bombay to Rajputana. Today it is the seat of the Indian Army War College.          jan8/4
