Mrs Collins being parsimonious towards her cook, circa 1860-80
Another sketch with wartercolour from the same book as that shown in the entry apr26/1. This shows the child artist’s mother giving out 8 plums after much pressure, 6 x 4¼ ins. The reverse of the old piece of album leaf shows mother and Violet in bed under attack from a Plague of Beetles. approx 7 x 4 ins with some damage and loss at the lower left corner. These drawings, although very amateur, capture the everyday incidents of Victorian life in India with a charm and detail not often found in professional work of the time. apr26/2.
