NABHA. The Gateway to the Raja of Nabha’s Camp at the 1911 Delhi Durbar

The Sikh Raja of Nabha’s camp gateway at the ruler’s camp at the 1911 Coronation Durbar in Delhi.

A small amateur photograph, 5½ x 3½ ins, showing the very grand and elaborate gateway, appropriately for this Sikh ruler rather reminiscent of the Golden Temple at Amritsar. Crowds of Sikhs are passing in and out. Although they are not often shown in contemporary photographs, the more important camps had very impressive temporary buildings like this, often made out of wood or wood and painted canvas. A most unusual little survival mounted on a piece of old album card. Another image from the same event appears on the back of the card.  jun126
