Niello work. Articulated, incomplete belt, 19th century

The incomplete, articulated belt has six sections measuring in total 12 x 1¼ ins [30.5 x 3.5 cm] ands weighs 98 gm. There are no marks to help with identification but part of the decoration suggests an origin in the Ottoman Empire, probably Central Asia. Niello was popular in Byzantine times and has continued to be used mainly in Ottoman controlled areas of Eastern Europe and Central Asia but also in Russia and the Baltic area.  jul 21/6
