Officer of the Queen’s Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard, 22mm

£85.00

A very rare example of the button worn exclusively by the four principal officers of the Guard. Of fine fire gilt the mounted button has the design of rose, thistle, and shamrock beneath a Victorian crown. It has the backmark of JENNENS & Co, LONDON and retains full gilt. This is the oldest military corps in Britain dating from 1485. One of our illustrations, taken from Dress and Insignia worn at Court shows the coatee uniform worn by the four officers [on the right], much less familiar than that of the Yeomen. The Captain and other officers are all former officers of the Army who have reached field rank [major].            jun15/1
