Prinsep, Henry T: Tibet, Tartary and Mongolia; their social and political condition, and the religion of Boodh as there existing. Wm. H Allen [London] 1852, 2nd edition 8vo [8 x 5 ins].

Folding map, vii [preface to the 2nd edition], 178pp. Original blue cloth gilt and blindstamped, clean, sound binding with little wear, contents very clean, small edge tear where the map meets the text block and chipped along the extreme edge which overhangs the text block, but not affecting the printed area, neat but difficult to read contemporary signature to pastedown and no other previous ownership markings. An interesting little book which draws information from both ancient and recent work, such as the travels of Huc and Gabet. Prinsep makes the point in his new preface [the first was in 1851] that “The whole of India being now British, it would seem to be the destiny of England to be drawn, day by day, more into relation with the races of mankind who profess that religion [Buddhism]….”            mar3/1
