Punjab Police, a very good portrait of a named officer, 1894

The very clean 6½ x 4¼ ins cabinet card by R. A. Munshi, Photographer, Benabee Lall, Ferosepore shows a full length portrait of the officer in uniform with his sword. The contemporary ink inscription on the verso reads Gunga Nam, my orderly at Multan in 1853 ended as quite the Top of the native Police officers in the Punjab, An absolutely sound man. April 1894.The signature beneath this inscription is hard to decipher. NAmed photographs of Indian officers are few and far between.   Dec1/5
