Rev William Sykes, a Crimean veteran wearing his medal. A good cdv
POA
A good carte de visite by the fashionable London photographers MAULL & FOX, 187a Piccadilly. The cdv shows the military chaplain bust length wearing his Crimean War Medal and an unidentified medal in front of it. An old ink identification on the verso reads Wm, Sykes C.F. 1884. The C.F. stands for Chaplain to the Forces, equivalent to the rank of Colonel. He is shown with that rank in the Hart’s Army List 1888 when he is at Sandhurst. In the 1861 edition he is at Cape of Good Hope. sep17/2 SOLD 21st February 2023
