Royal Edinburgh Volunteers, officer’s gilt coatee button, 20mm

POA

A handsome domed, gilt 20mm button of the 1st Regt. Royal Edinburgh Volunteers which would have been worn by one of the officers of this regiment around 1800-1810. The design has a castle in a shield with an anchor above – a simplified version of the arms of the City of Edinburgh. There is no backmark. Our Militia & Volunteer Lists 1807 show the regiment having a strength of 1010 and the Colonel was the Lord Provost [from 1803] with Lieutenant Colonels being Rt. Hon. Charles Hope & James Spens [from 1802]. There is a little loss of gilt finish to the highest points of the design.    may23/1   SOLD 23rd May 2023
