Royal Welch Fuziliers, 19mm open backed officer’s

Royal Welch Fusiliers, an officer’s open backed button with the design shown  in Parkyn 214 although he only shows and mentions the button using the whereas this button has the wording round the Prince of Wales’s feathers as ROYAL WELCH FUZILIERS using a z. The button has the backmark C. JENNENS LONDONOtherwise the button is identical to the example shown with Roman numerals XXIII for 23 beneath the title and a Georgian crown above. Parkyn suggests this pattern was in use on the officer’s coatee from about 1810 until 1855 but we imagine this spelling puts this example at the earlier end of the range. There is some minor wear to the high points of the design but personally I think it’s no bad thing that a button has seen service.    sep11/2   SOLD 28th November 2021
